Our Lady of Garaison: A Shepherdess’ Visions, Miracles of Bread, and Preparing for Lent | Mary’s Message
In this episode of Mary’s Message: Leading Hearts to Jesus Today, hosts Kristi Murray and Father Perry Canton open with prayer (including the St. Michael prayer) and discuss “Our Lady of Zen,” focusing on a 10-year-old shepherdess named Angelise in the Pyrenees of southwestern France. Father Perry recounts how the Blessed Mother appeared to Angelise three times, asked that a chapel be built where she would “spread my gifts,” and how initial skepticism gave way as pilgrims arrived chanting hymns. He describes reported miracles tied to the apparitions, including black bread turning white and a household chest filled with white loaves, along with cures associated with the shrine—mentioning a notable 17th-century cure connected to the young Louis XIV, brought by his mother Anne of Austria. The episode covers the chapel’s enlargement in 1540, Angelise later becoming a nun and dying in 1582, and how pilgrimages were interrupted during the French Revolution and later impacted by clerical laws in 1903 before resuming, with the sanctuary eventually surrounded by parish buildings and a school. Father Perry notes the apparitions were recognized by Popes Urban VIII and Gregory XIV with indulgences granted to visitors, encourages listeners to look up the site, and reflects on trusting Mary amid doubt and anxiety. He also previews upcoming Lent content beginning with Ash Wednesday, offers practical spiritual encouragement about praying the rosary with attention, and invites listeners to ask their guardian angel’s name.

Welcome to Mary's Message, leading Hearts through Jesus. Jesus Today, the podcast where we listen to the voice of the blessed mother and allow her to guide us ever closer to her son in our modern world. I'm Kristi Murray, along with Father Perry Canton, and each week we explore stories of faith, conversations with Catholic voices. And practical spiritual tools to help you encounter Christ more deeply in a world longing for peace and clarity. Mary continues to speak to her children with love, hope, and a mother's gentle wisdom. Thank you for joining us as we open our hearts to Mary's message and let her lead us in to the loving embrace of Jesus. So this week we are going to talk about Our Lady of Zen. Did I say that correctly? Yep. Okay. All right, father Perry, would you like to start us in prayer? In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Oh my Jesus. Forgive our sins. Save us from the fires of hell and lead us into the soul heaven. Especially those who are need your mercy, oh God, who's only begotten son by his life, death, and resurrection as purchased. For us, the rewards of eternal Life, grant, we be cease that while meditating on these mysteries. When we say the rosary. Of the most of our blessed mother, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promised. Dear Christ our Lord. Amen. A very special one is Saint Michael, the Archangel Saint Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wicked of the snares of the devil. May God rebuke him. We humbly pray and do thou prince of the heavenly host by the power of God driving to hell, Satan and all the evil spirits. Who roam through the world seeking to earn souls. Amen. Amen. Welcome my brothers and sisters in Christ. Well, you know, every time I read this book that we're using, I'm, I'm surprised at what, what's happening is a Mama Mary just says, I am ready to go to this young lady right here. And that's exactly what she did. And if you read, uh, I'll share some things with you today, but at the same time, it, it's the same thing that, um, takes place. She appears to a, a shepherd girl in a sense and et cetera. So let me, uh, let me just go ahead and get into the story here and, uh, we'll go from there. The fir, the first vision to Angelis Magazine. The history of the chapel begins with a 10-year-old she shepherds named Angelise, who was with her flock near the source of the rivers. Here in the Pyrenees of southwestern France, the blessed mother favored the simple child By appearing to her on three different occasions. Our heavenly mother wanted to relieve. To relive the hunger and distress of the people. Asked for a chapel to be built in her honor where I shall spread my gifts. Angelis dutifully told her father what took place after the first vision, but was meant with skepticism by him and the people who first heard the story. Some of the people nevertheless, accompanying angels to the spot where the vision occurred. In the hope of also seeing the blessed Virgin Mary, yet only angels was favored with the two following apparitions, soon people from other areas journeyed to the place of the pilgrimage. Chanting hymns in honor of our blessed mother. So you see my friends, she is right there. She and, and look at the doubt. I mean, oh, you have to, is read the other ones. Um, and they know they, they've had the same types of problems. And the following two vision visions con convinced the doubters on historian of the time Orlando reports that the failure of the crops was prevalent in the city and the region, so that the people were reduced to eating. A kind of bread, a pastry mainstay black. A painting in the Heavenly doc dec Decorated chapel shows the visionary in the presence of our lady holding a piece of the his black bread, which was miraculously changed to white. Another painting depicts a chest in our house of the family full of fluffy white loaves. Being inspected by neighbors. The miracle that this painting represents is, is said to have convinced the people of the authenticity of the vision when kiers were being obtained and the devotion of the people increased to a sizeable amount. The first chapel was enlarged in 1540. To accompany them. The Virgin Mary's request was realized by this enlargement and Angelis, no doubt had filled with grace and virtue and the love of the blessed mother left the beloved place of her encounters with heaven and be begin, uh, a a nun in Fabi where she died in 1582. The Magnifi value sanctuary that remains is a venerable treasure of art, which dates to the six 16th and 17th centuries painting, et cetera, and altar pieces based release and intricate carvings are deemed most precious. By the people and are greatly revered and admired by all who are there to, to venerate them and just to authenticate this and another of all, the cures that have been taken place at the Shrine, the most notable one. Is that of what was performed in the 17th century in favor of the young Louis the 14th, who had been brought there by his mother Ann of Austria during the French revolutionary of 1789. Pilgrimages were interrupted by what were later reestablished. A school was eventually built and all went well until the new. Clerical laws of 1903. It was then that the school was closed, but 20 years later, the school was reopened and today about 580 peoples are counted. The sanctuary is now surrounded by the school, the rectory and necessary parish buildings, some of which accommodate visiting pilgrims, the apparition. Were recognized by two Popes, Irvin Thei and Gregory the 14th who granted indulgences to those who visited the shrine, which was so blessed by their blessed mother. So my friends, if you want, all she had to do is Google the site and uh, and go there. And enjoy that. But this just gives you a capsule version of what's going on. And again, look what happens. She appears, she tell, and Angel tells the story, and at first there's doubt, but then there's miracles that happened and they came and they came across and everything. But you know, it's just like Bernadette and the rest of 'em. Ah, you're outta your mind. But my mother, my mother takes care of things. And that's what we have to do too. We just have to let Mother, mama, Mary, take care of us. Um, that's why. So it's important to, uh, to, you know, to do that. I, I was talking to somebody yesterday and they said, no anxiety. I got a lot of anxiety. I, uh, yeah. Right. Well, do you remember the story of Martha and Mary and when Mary was the sat at the feet? Jesus. Uh, and just as a reminder here, my friends, whoa, just as a reminder, lent in about two weeks is gonna come up. So what are we gonna do for Lent Lents an individual thing. And as a result of that, we just have to ask Jesus, Jesus, what do you want me to do during this season of lead so I can become more like you? I give you some spring cleaning. To prune me spiritually so I can become more like you. You know, spring, you know why Lent takes place. It's because length's the time for spring cleaning, not only spiritually, but worldly as well. And if you wanna know if you should clean anything physically, all you gotta do is look at your garage. And you'll know if you needed to throw away anything, all those precious things that you have, uh, just take a look at 'em. Do I really need this? Or do, uh, do I need to? Purge with some of those. And the thing is spiritually too, how many of us are guilty of the 32nd rosary? What do you mean by that, father? Well, I'm, I'm glad you asked 'cause I'll share some stuff with you here. 32nd rosary. Name of the father is on the Holy Spirit. Amen. Boom. Oh, the rosary's done. Oh, come one. It says right there, celebrate the rosary. And that means to celebrate the rosary. It is like when a priest celebrates mass, you gotta have time for the mass. Don't worry about the NFL games. Don't worry about anything else. You're there to be recharged, spiritually speaking. Your battery's been worn down, so take that hour or whatever and just be there for them. Be there for Jesus. And that goes from my times two guys, the priest. He is there to celebrate mass with you. He should be totally involved in celebrating the mass and not worrying about other things. Um, I was told years, years ago that your f your every mass, every mass, my friends should be your first mass. And that's. And I was told that, you know, every time you celebrate mass, Jesus is right behind you. So if you carry that image with you, uh, well, what a mass that is. But in reference to our dear friend here, Angelice, she did it again, mama Mary. She appeared to somebody very, very simple and she was able to. Answer the call. And now look, all she had to do is Google it, uh, and you'll find out exactly how, how precious she was. And if you, uh, see the icon right there, that's one of the, that's one of the many pictures that's available on if you do some and everything else like that. So my friends, I hope that you'll, uh. You will enjoy this, uh, little pause here to a certain extent, uh, for our lady. Uh, next time that we talk to each other, uh, will be for Lent. And my, my, my goal basically is to, to start with Ash Wednesday. Uh, share some history about Ash Wednesday, and then from then on until Easter, we'll, uh, have some reflections in regards to what L is all about and what are we doing for L. And what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna propose a meditation that I, that I came across, um, next time that we get together, see if we can't screenshot that or something. Mm-hmm. That's, uh, okay, but nobody knows that yet, but they didn't know. So anyway, guys, um, I got good news for you. I'm looking out my window here, and they plowed the streets, so that's a good thing. Don't have to worry about buying a beanie. You know, the snow's very deep here, you know. But other than that, I hope you enjoy this because, uh, eventually what's gonna happen here is that we're gonna get brave enough. To go live too, and it's not just voice. So we'll see how that works out. But anyway, God bless. So me, many God bless you. The Father, the Son of the Holy Spirit. Amen. I'm sure my dear sister here probably has questions for me. I don't know the price of tea, but that's alright. So I guess I don't have a question. I just wanted to summarize. So she appeared to a shepherdess this time in the mountains of a nee mountains in France. Mm-hmm. And so the two miracles that was, is it two? Well the first one was the bread was turned white. Mm-hmm. Correct. And then the other miracle was there was a cure. Mm-hmm. That happened to Shrine. Okay. That, yeah, that is really what I have. I don't have much questions today. Um, what do you think if like, our lady appears in Alaska. Well, maybe she has, we just don't know it yet. Yeah. You know, there are different places, you know, I mean, she hasn't really told us, but who knows? I mean, there could be. She might, well, you know, I'd be very simple with you. She's right behind us anyway, so. Mm-hmm. We just don't see her on this level. Yeah. Just like with Jesus. And the other thing is my friends, and it's just a, an assignment for you. If you don't know your name of your guardian angel, ask him or her and see what they say, because they wanna tell you, which you gotta be brave enough to ask. Okay. You can't. Okay. Just be like, mama Mary. Mm-hmm. She stabbed it in faith and say, Hey dude, what's your name? And they're gonna, he's probably gonna say something about that, but, okay. No problem. Okay. But anyway, God bless. Hey, have a nice one, and enjoy the. Beginning Lynn's only a couple weeks away, so like I said, next time we hear each other and talk to each other, it'll be on the season of Lent, starting with Ash Wednesday and, and how this all came about. So enjoy the rest of the day and I'm not quite sure when you're gonna listen to this, but invite your friends too, 'cause this has meant for for everybody. So God bless. We're trying to be light. We're trying to light, light some candles and illuminate, I guess, the way for people who can't see or can't see very well, or you to see. Yes. I guess that's another thing. All right.
